6×19W wire rope is a common multi-strand wire rope structure, belonging to the "6-strand 19-wire" series. Its core feature is that the strands are arranged in the Warrington style ("W" stands for Warrington style), which combines strength, flexibility and wear resistance. It is widely used in lifting, hoisting, traction and other scenarios. The outer layer of thick steel wire directly contacts the pulley or drum, and its wear resistance is better than that of ordinary 6×19 (filled type) and slightly lower than that of 6×19S (Willow type, the outer layer is all thick steel wire). Because there are fine steel wire intervals in the outer layer, the overall rigidity of the strand is lower than that of 6×19S, and the bending performance is better, which is suitable for scenarios that require frequent rope winding (such as small winches).
Line contacted wire rope(Ungalvanized and Galvanized).
All the wires in the strand have the same lay length. Each layer of wires is placed on the groove formed between the inner wires. The wires are in line contact and the strand structure is tight. Therefore, the line contact wire rope has a large breaking force and there is no secondary bending stress between the layers of wires when in use.
Features: The contact within the strand is tighter than point contact, the density coefficient is higher, the bending and contact stress on the steel wire in the rope is smaller during operation, and the service life is higher than that of general point contact wire rope.

Wear resistance: The outer layer of thick steel wire directly contacts the pulley or drum, and its wear resistance is better than that of ordinary 6×19 (filled type), and slightly lower than that of 6×19S (Xilu type, the outer layer is all thick steel wire).
Flexibility: Because there are thin steel wire intervals in the outer layer, the overall rigidity of the strand is lower than that of 6×19S, and the bending performance is better, which is suitable for scenes that require frequent rope winding (such as small winches).
Strength: The breaking tensile force is higher than that of 6×19 (filled type, low filling wire strength), slightly lower than that of 6×19S (the outer layer of thick steel wire accounts for a higher proportion), and the overall load-bearing uniformity is better.
Fatigue resistance: The outer layer of thick and thin steel wires are arranged alternately, and the stress distribution is more dispersed when subjected to force, and the fatigue life during repeated bending is better than that of 6×19S.
Lifting equipment with medium and low loads (such as small cranes, forklift slings);
Traction operations that require frequent bending (such as elevator compensation chains, light port trailers);
Medium wear environments (such as temporary lifting in construction, agricultural machinery traction).
Q1: What does the "W" in 6×19W stand for? What is the essential difference from other "6×19" series?
A: "W" stands for Warrington, which is the arrangement of the steel wires in the strand: the outer layer is composed of 6 thick steel wires and 6 thin steel wires arranged alternately, and the inner layer is 6 steel wires + 1 center wire, with a total of 19 wires/strand.
The core difference with the same series lies in the performance balance:
Compared to 6×19 (filled): no weak filling wire, the outer layer of thick steel wire improves wear resistance and has higher breaking tensile force;
Compared to 6×19S (Sirru): the outer layer has thin steel wire intervals, better flexibility, better fatigue resistance, but slightly lower wear resistance.
Q6: Is 6×19W suitable for high-frequency bending scenarios?
A: Suitable.
The "thick and thin alternating" arrangement of the outer layer of steel wires makes the strands moderately rigid, the stress is more evenly dispersed when bending, and the fatigue resistance is better than 6×19S (all thick outer layer). For example: in scenarios where frequent rope winding is required, such as small winches and elevator door machine traction, the life of 6×19W is usually longer.
Q4: Is the outer thin steel wire of 6×19W easy to break?
A: It is not easy to break under normal use, but it should be noted that:
The main function of the thin steel wire is to "fill the gap" and "buffer stress", and it does not bear the main load. If the outer thick steel wire is severely worn (diameter reduction> 10%), the thin steel wire may break due to excessive force;
Avoid direct friction between the wire rope and sharp objects (thin steel wire has weak shear resistance), otherwise it may break alone.
Q5: How to choose 6×19W, 6×19S, and 6×19?
A: You can judge by "scenario priority":
If wear resistance is the first priority (such as tower crane winch, heavy crane): select 6×19S;
If flexibility is the first priority (such as small radius pulley traction, frequent bending): select 6×19 (filled);
If a balance between wear resistance and flexibility is required (such as medium-sized hoisting, general traction): select 6×19W.
Q6: Can 6×19W replace 6×37?
A: Not recommended.
6×37 belongs to the "fine steel wire multi-strand" structure (37 strands per strand), and its flexibility is much better than 6×19W, which is suitable for small pulleys and multi-turn scenarios (such as elevator traction); while 6×19W has higher rigidity, and forcibly using it in small radius bending scenarios will cause excessive fatigue of the steel wire and shorten its life.
