Wire Rope 6x19 is a classic multi-strand wire rope structure (6 strands, each strand contains 19 wires), designed with high strength, medium flexibility and wide durability as the core, suitable for a variety of medium and heavy duty conditions. Each strand of 19 wires usually adopts a "1+6+12" layered structure (1 center wire + 6 inner wires + 12 outer wires), and the single wire diameter is thicker than 6x24 (for example, under the same rope diameter, the single wire diameter of 6x19 is about 1.2-1.5 times that of 6x24). This "thick wire and few strands" design makes it more rigid than 6x24, but its flexibility is still better than that of thicker wire structures (such as 6x7), and it can run stably on medium diameter pulleys (the pulley diameter is usually not less than 16-20 times the rope diameter).
Point contacted wire rope(Ungalvanized and Galvanized).
A wire rope in which adjacent layers of steel wires in the strands are in point contact is also called an unbalanced twist wire rope. The strands of this wire rope (except the center wire) are twisted with steel wires of the same specification, and the twist angles of each layer of steel wires are equal but the twist lengths are different. It is an old-style wire rope, and the so-called ordinary round strand wire rope belongs to this type.
Features: The strand structure of point contact wire rope is relatively loose, the wires slide more when subjected to force, the elongation is larger, and the density coefficient is smaller.

1. Structural characteristics: thick wire and few strands, both rigid and flexible
Wire configuration: 19 strands per strand adopts the structure of "1 center wire + 6 inner wires + 12 outer thick wires". The diameter of the outer wire is about 20%-30% thicker than 6x24 (under the same rope diameter). The rigidity is significantly higher than the multi-wire structure (such as 6x37), but the flexibility is better than 6x7 (only 7 strands per strand).
Twisting process: The twist pitch is usually 6-7 times the rope diameter, the strands fit tightly, and the ability to resist extrusion deformation is strong, which is suitable for long-term axial load (such as tower crane main hook, winch traction).
2. Mechanical properties: Benchmark for high strength and wear resistance
Outstanding tensile strength: 65#-80# high carbon steel is used, with strength grades covering 1570-1960MPa (such as 140-160kN breaking force for 16mm diameter), which is about 30% higher than the 6x12 structure, suitable for medium and heavy lifting (such as port containers, construction steel).
Wear and impact resistance: The thick outer steel wire (diameter 1.0-1.5mm) wears more evenly in the friction of the pulley/drum, and the life is more than 40% longer than 6x24, especially suitable for high-frequency friction scenarios such as mine hoisting and port loading and unloading.
Anti-torsion and anti-loose strands: 6-strand symmetrical twisting + steel core (IWR) option, large axial stiffness, not easy to cause loose strands due to load fluctuations, and safer than single-strand ropes.
Our wire ropes are fully tested: each batch of products is fully tested for 12 indicators including "breaking force, bending fatigue, torsion times, diameter deviation, appearance defects", etc., and is equipped with a "non-destructive flaw detector" rarely seen in the industry, which can accurately identify hidden defects such as internal broken wires and inclusions, with a factory pass rate of 100%.
6x19 steel wire rope is widely used in medium and heavy loads and frequent friction scenes due to its characteristics of "high strength, wear resistance and medium flexibility", covering multiple fields such as construction, ports, mining, and industry. The specific application scenarios are as follows:
1. In the field of construction and engineering machinery, as the main hoisting rope and luffing rope of tower cranes, it undertakes the task of hoisting steel bars, formwork, concrete and other building materials (the lifting weight is usually 5-50 tons). Because of its wear resistance and impact resistance, it can adapt to the frequent start and stop of the construction site and the open-air environment. The traction or balance rope of the construction elevator is suitable for medium-diameter pulleys (16-20 times the rope diameter) to ensure the safety of vertical transportation. The main hook rope and jib traction rope of small and medium-sized cranes. The inclined cable wind rope of the high-support formwork scaffolding and the temporary fixed rope of the steel structure hoisting use its strong rigidity and non-deformation characteristics to ensure the stability of construction (the safety factor is usually ≥6).
2. Port and logistics hoisting, used for hoisting containers, steel, bulk cargo, etc., in the face of the humid environment of the dock, hot-dip galvanized 6x19 steel wire rope is often used to improve the corrosion resistance. The hoisting rope of the workshop gantry crane and the load-bearing rope of the forklift hoist are used for the transportation of heavy equipment (such as machine tools and molds) in the workshop. Because of convenient maintenance (broken wire is easy to observe), they are suitable for frequent daily use.
3. Mining and resource development, the winch hoisting rope of small and medium-sized mines (such as inclined shaft traction mine car, vertical shaft hoisting material), resistant to ore friction and underground humid environment, often uses hot-dip galvanized + steel core (IWR) 6x19 structure to extend the service life. The towing rope of the excavator and loader is used to tow faulty equipment or heavy objects. It has strong impact resistance and can withstand instantaneous tension fluctuations.
4. Bridge and infrastructure construction, the load-bearing rope in the hanging basket construction and the sling of the prefabricated beam hoisting bear temporary loads during the pouring and erection of the bridge, and both strength and stability must be taken into account. Temporary fixed cables during the installation of large steel structures (such as bridge steel arches and factory building trusses) are symmetrically tensioned by multiple 6x19 steel wire ropes to ensure the balance of the structure when it is in place.
Q1: What is the difference between 6x24 and 6x19?
A: 6x24: thinner wire (24 strands/strand), softer, suitable for frequent bending (such as cranes, elevators).
6x19: slightly thicker wire (19 strands/strand), balanced flexibility and wear resistance, suitable for medium-frequency applications (such as winches, cable cars).
Q4: How to calculate the breaking force of 6x24?
A: Formula: Minimum breaking force (KN) ≈ diameter² (mm) × coefficient (0.36~0.45, depending on the material)
Example: 20mm 6x24 wire rope (FC) ≈ 20² × 0.4 = 160 KN (about 16.3 tons)
Q4: How long can 6x24 last?
A: Lifespan depends on:
Frequency of use (high-frequency bending will shorten lifespan).
Maintenance status (regular lubrication can extend the service life by 30%~50%).
Environmental corrosion (galvanizing is required in seawater environment, otherwise the service life will be halved).
