DIN 5685A short link chain is a welded round steel chain built in strict accordance with the German DIN 5685A standard. It is designed for material conveying, bundling and fixing in the industrial field. Its chain link pitch is compact and suitable for a variety of space-constrained equipment. The safety factor is between 4.0 and 6.0 depending on the application scenario, and it can withstand a certain impact load. There are various surface treatments, including hot-dip galvanizing to enhance corrosion resistance, suitable for humid and outdoor environments; black paint coating is used for wear prevention and simple protection. The chain has a compact structure and is easy to install. Through precise manufacturing, the chain link size is high and the transmission is stable. It is an indispensable connection and transmission component in industrial production.

Compact design, precise manufacturing. Following the DIN 5685A standard, the chain links are short and compact, with a pitch of 10-20mm and a tolerance of ±0.2mm. The chain link diameter tolerance is ±0.1mm, ensuring that the chain runs smoothly on the sprocket, and the runout is ≤0.5mm. The welding process adopts advanced gas shielded welding, the weld is flat and firm, the strength is higher than the parent material, and the problems of desoldering and cold welding are effectively avoided. It can also work stably during high-speed and frequent start-stop transmission.
Various treatments to adapt to the environment. The zinc layer thickness of hot-dip galvanizing treatment is ≥50μm, and the salt spray resistance test exceeds 720 hours. It is suitable for humid and salty environments such as ports and ships to prevent the chain from rusting and corrosion, and extend the service life by 3-5 years. The black paint coating thickness is 0.1-0.2mm, with good wear resistance and certain protection. It can be used for indoor material conveying lines to reduce the friction loss between the chain links and equipment and reduce the maintenance frequency.
Rich specifications, flexible application. We provide a variety of chain link diameter and pitch combinations to meet different equipment and operation requirements. From light 2mm diameter for delicate material conveying to heavy 6mm diameter for larger load bundling, all can be adapted. Special specifications can also be customized according to customer needs, such as non-standard pitch, special surface treatment, etc., to improve compatibility with non-standard equipment.
Material Conveying. Small material conveyor belts in food processing workshops use 3mm diameter DIN 5685A short-link chains to move the load trays. The compact chain link design adapts to small spaces, and the galvanized surface meets food hygiene and safety requirements to avoid contamination of materials. The conveying capacity can reach 300-500 products per hour. The component conveyor line in the electronic manufacturing factory uses precise chain transmission to ensure that the positioning error of the components is ≤2mm, meeting the high-precision requirements of automated production.
Equipment Bundling. At the construction site, 5mm diameter chains are used to bundle construction materials such as steel pipes and formwork. The high-strength chains can withstand the weight of the materials and prevent them from slipping. The hot-dip galvanized surface is not easy to rust in outdoor wind and rain environments, ensuring the safety of bundling. In ship transportation, chains are used to fix cargo, and the short-link design facilitates flexible winding to keep cargo stable in a bumpy sea environment.
Mechanical transmission. Small agricultural machinery, such as the seeding transmission mechanism of the seeder, uses a 4mm diameter chain. The compact structure fits the internal space of the machine, and the stable transmission ensures uniform seeding and improves the quality of seeding. The yarn feeding system of textile machinery, the chain drives the yarn winding device, accurately controls the yarn feeding speed, ensures the stability of the yarn tension, and improves the quality of textiles.
Q1: What is the difference with ordinary short-link chains?
A: Ordinary short-link chains have low manufacturing precision, pitch tolerance ±0.5mm, chain ring diameter tolerance ±0.3mm, and poor running stability. DIN 5685A short-link chains are strictly produced according to standards, with pitch tolerance ±0.2mm, chain ring diameter tolerance ±0.1mm, and smoother transmission. In terms of material, ordinary chains are mostly carbon steel, which is easy to rust; DIN 5685A chains are made of high-quality alloy steel, with better strength and corrosion resistance. For example, the conveyor belts of food factories use DIN 5685A chains, which can ensure the accuracy and sanitation of material transportation, which ordinary chains cannot meet.
Q3: How to deal with rusted chains?
A: If the rust is slight, use sandpaper to gently polish to remove the rust, and then apply anti-rust oil. For hot-dip galvanized chains, zinc paint needs to be applied after polishing to restore the protective layer. If the rust is severe and the chain ring diameter wear exceeds 5%, a new chain needs to be replaced to avoid affecting the safety and performance of use. In daily use, take protective measures, such as avoiding the chain from contacting corrosive media, to reduce the occurrence of rust.
Q3: How to determine whether the chain meets the DIN 5685A standard?
A: Check whether there is a clear "DIN 5685A" logo and related certification marks (such as German TÜV certification) on the surface of the chain. Ask the supplier for product quality certification documents, including material reports, mechanical properties test reports, size inspection reports, etc., and all indicators should comply with the DIN 5685A standard. You can also query the certification information through the official website of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) by entering the product number to confirm product compliance.
Q3: What should I do if the chain makes noise during operation?
A: First check whether the chain and sprocket match (pitch error ≤ 0.2mm), whether the chain is short of oil, and add appropriate grease in time (such as grease with viscosity grade ISO VG 150). Then check whether the chain ring is deformed or embedded with debris, clean up the debris, and correct the slightly deformed chain ring (deformation ≤ 5%). If the noise persists, the sprocket may be worn. Check the sprocket tooth profile and replace the sprocket if necessary to ensure smooth and quiet chain operation.
