NACM90 standard chain follows the standards of the National Association of Chain Manufacturers (NACM) and has specific applications in the industrial field. Its rated load range is 2-10 tons, and the safety factor is usually set to ≥4.0, which can cope with medium-intensity operations. In terms of material, medium-carbon steel or low-alloy structural steel, such as 45# steel, 16Mn steel, etc., are mostly used. After hot forging, quenching and tempering, the tensile strength reaches 90 levels, generally 900-1100MPa, giving the chain ring good strength and toughness. The chain ring diameter is commonly 8-16mm, and the pitch is 40-80mm, which is suitable for most American mechanical equipment. The surface treatment is mainly hot-dip galvanizing (zinc layer thickness ≥80μm) or Dacromet coating, and the salt spray resistance test is ≥1000 hours. It is suitable for a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, covering logistics handling, building auxiliary construction, small equipment lifting and other scenarios. While ensuring performance, it has a good cost performance.

Material technology, suitable working conditions. 45# medium carbon steel or 16Mn low alloy structural steel is selected, and the chain ring is precisely formed by hot forging process, with dense internal structure and Rockwell hardness maintained at HRC35-40. After quenching and tempering, the comprehensive mechanical properties of the chain ring are improved, and the impact toughness αk≥50J/cm² can withstand a certain degree of impact load. Taking the 5-ton chain as an example, in the test of simulating 500 lifting cycles (load is rated value), the chain ring wear is ≤0.15mm, showing good wear resistance and fatigue resistance, meeting the needs of daily and short-term overload operations. The breaking load is more than 4 times the rated load (such as the breaking load of the 8-ton chain ≥32 tons).
Precise specifications, equipment compatibility. The chain ring diameter and pitch are strictly set according to the NACM90 standard. Common chain ring diameters are 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 16mm, and the pitches correspond to 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 70mm, and 80mm, respectively. This precise specification system can be seamlessly connected with many lifting and transmission equipment that are compatible with the NACM standard in the United States and internationally. For example, in a small crane system in logistics warehousing, a NACM90 chain with a specific pitch can precisely mesh with the driving sprocket of the crane to achieve efficient and stable material lifting.
Convenient connection, flexible assembly. Equipped with a quick connection device that meets the NACM standard, the connection method is simple and reliable, and skilled workers can complete the connection operation within 30 seconds. The breaking strength of the connection device is equivalent to that of the chain ring, ensuring the reliability of the connection part during the operation. The chain can be assembled into different lengths of 5-30 meters through the connecting device according to actual needs to meet the requirements of different lifting heights, equipment layouts and operating ranges. At the construction site, the chain length can be flexibly adjusted to cooperate with small cranes to lift construction materials.
Excellent cost performance, economical and practical. Compared with the higher-grade NACM96 standard chain, the procurement cost of NACM90 standard chain is 15%-25% lower, which is more suitable for operating scenarios with limited budgets but certain requirements for chain performance and moderate lifting frequency (8-15 times a day). Under normal maintenance conditions, the service life can reach 4-6 years, and the average annual maintenance cost accounts for 10%-15% of the procurement cost (quarterly cleaning + annual flaw detection). After long-term use, the overall cost-effectiveness advantage is obvious.
Logistics and warehousing scenarios. In logistics warehouses, 3-8 ton NACM90 standard chains are used in conjunction with forklift attachments to transport palletized goods (such as home appliances, daily necessities, etc.). The chain can firmly bind the cargo pallets and work in conjunction with the lifting and handling actions of the forklift to achieve rapid loading, unloading and stacking. In some automated warehousing systems, NACM90 chains are used as transmission components of conveyor lines to drive the flow of goods between different storage areas, with a daily operation volume of up to 60-80 times, ensuring the operation of logistics warehousing efficiently and stably.
Construction assistance. At construction sites, small cranes often use 5-10 ton NACM90 standard chains to lift building materials, such as lightweight blocks and small prefabricated components. The high strength and flexibility of the chain enable it to quickly complete lifting and transportation tasks in complex construction environments. When building temporary scaffolding, NACM90 chains can be used to hang small tool baskets, providing convenience for high-altitude workers and ensuring the safety of tool basket hanging.
Small equipment installation and maintenance. In the factory workshop, when installing or maintaining small equipment of 0.5-5 tons (such as small machine tools, ventilation equipment, etc.), NACM90 standard chains can be used with tools such as manual hoists and small cranes to achieve precise displacement and installation of equipment. The chain can flexibly surround the equipment, find the center of gravity, and ensure the stability of the equipment during the lifting process. In the maintenance workshop, NACM90 chains are used to temporarily fix the parts of the equipment to be repaired, which is convenient for maintenance personnel to carry out maintenance operations.
Agricultural and horticultural operations. In agricultural production, when a tractor pulls a 3-8 ton agricultural trailer to transport agricultural products (such as grain and vegetables), the NACM90 standard chain can be used to connect the trailer and the tractor to transmit traction. Its good toughness can adapt to the small impact caused by uneven road surfaces in the field. In orchard and garden operations, NACM90 chains are used in conjunction with small lifting equipment to move pruned fruit tree branches, garden landscape stones, etc., to improve work efficiency.
Q1: How to choose between NACM90 and NACM96 standard chains?
A: If the operation is frequent, the load is heavy (≥8 tons), and the chain service life and safety requirements are extremely high, the NACM96 standard chain is preferred; if the lifting frequency is moderate, the load is ≤8 tons, and the budget is limited, the NACM90 standard chain is a more suitable choice. For example, when lifting heavy containers at large port terminals, NACM96 standard chains are selected; while in general factory workshops, when lifting equipment below 5 tons, NACM90 standard chains can meet the needs.
Q3: What should be paid attention to when customizing the chain length?
A: Customizing the chain length requires comprehensive consideration of the lifting height, equipment layout and safety margin. Generally, a 20% - 30% margin is added to the lifting height. For example, if the lifting height is 12 meters, it is recommended to use a 14 - 15 meter chain. If the length is too short, it cannot meet the operation requirements, and if it is too long, it is easy to get tangled and entangled, increase the deadweight, and require higher lifting equipment. When customizing, the required length and tolerance range (usually ±50mm) must be clarified with the supplier to ensure that the chain length is accurately adapted to the operating scenario.
Q3: Can the chain continue to be used if it is rusted?
A: If it is slightly rusted (only a small amount of floating rust on the surface), it can be polished with sandpaper and then coated with anti-rust paint. After a comprehensive inspection, there are no other defects and it can continue to be used; if it is severely rusted (rust pits appear, the chain link is obviously thinned), the strength decreases by more than 20%, and it must be scrapped and replaced according to the NACM90 standard. Daily protective measures, such as regular oiling and avoiding humid environments, can effectively prevent the chain from rusting.
Q3: Can the NACM90 standard chain be used with other standard equipment?
A: The NACM90 standard chain is mainly suitable for equipment that follows the NACM standard or has similar requirements for chain specifications. When matching with other standard equipment, it is necessary to carefully check the key size parameters such as chain link diameter and pitch to ensure matching. For example, some European standard equipment, if the size of the chain installation part is compatible with the NACM90 standard chain, can be used together through the adapter connection device, but the stability and safety of the equipment operation must be carefully evaluated. If the size difference is large, it is not recommended to force matching, so as not to affect the performance of the equipment and the safety of the operation.
