Simplex Clips usually refer to single bolt wire rope clamps, which are a type of connector used to fix wire ropes and are commonly used in construction, ships, rigging and other fields. They are generally composed of a bolt and a pressure plate, and have a simple structure. The wire rope is clamped and fixed by passing the wire rope around the bolt and then tightening the nut on the pressure plate. It can be used to create wire rope eyelets.
Common materials include 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel and carbon steel. Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and is suitable for environments such as humid and corrosive gases; carbon steel is usually galvanized, which can also provide certain rust resistance and is relatively low in cost.

Simple structure, easy installation
It only consists of a single bolt, a pressure plate and a nut, and the number of parts is more than 50% less than that of the American forged rope clamp (U-bolt + saddle + double nut). There is no need to distinguish the direction of the main rope and the rope tail during installation. Just put the wire rope into the clamp groove and tighten the bolts. The fixation can be completed within 30 seconds by one person, which is especially suitable for narrow space or temporary quick connection scenarios (such as gardening ropes, light bundling).
Lightweight design, lower cost
Under the same compatible wire rope diameter, the weight is 40%-60% lighter than the American rope clamp (for example, the single bolt rope clamp for 6mm wire rope is about 20g, and the American forged model is about 50g), saving transportation and installation weight. The manufacturing cost is 30%-40% lower, which is suitable for light scenes purchased in bulk (such as agricultural greenhouse reinforcement fixation and civil clothesline connection).
Simplex Clips (single bolt wire rope clips) are mainly used in light, non-load-bearing or temporary fixing scenarios due to their structural and performance characteristics. The specific application areas and typical uses are as follows:
Civil and gardening scenarios
Daily light bundling: such as fixing the two ends of the family clothesline, connecting the balcony guardrail rope, and temporarily bundling furniture when moving (load ≤200kg). It can be quickly fixed by taking advantage of its convenient installation characteristics, and can be reused after disassembly.
Gardening and agriculture: fixing the skeleton of the vegetable greenhouse (6-8mm steel wire rope), connecting the support rope of the fruit tree, and tightening the flowerbed fence net. Because the environment is mostly dry or slightly humid, the carbon steel galvanized model can meet the use requirements for 3-5 years, with low cost and simple maintenance.
Light industrial auxiliary scenarios
Temporary fixing of equipment: temporary anti-slip bundling of small machines (such as bench drills and grinders) in the workshop (fixed on the edge of the workbench), and the limit rope connection of light goods (≤500kg) on the storage shelves. There is no need to bear weight for a long time, and the single bolt structure can quickly adjust the tightness.
Auxiliary fixing of cables and pipes: Auxiliary rope fixing of cable trays in weak current projects (non-load-bearing support), temporary installation and tightening of small PVC pipes (diameter ≤50mm), to avoid wear or displacement caused by cable sagging.
Construction of temporary outdoor facilities
Temporary awning/tent fixing: used to fix the connection between the tent rope and the ground anchor point in outdoor activities (such as camping and fairs), suitable for 4-6mm nylon rope or thin steel wire rope, to cope with the tension under short-term wind force (≤5 levels), and easy to store after disassembly.
Installation of small billboards/signs: The inclined rope fixing of light roadside signs (weight ≤10kg) connects the steel wire rope to the bracket through a single bolt rope clamp to meet the stability requirements in daily breeze environment and facilitate the adjustment of angles later.
Q1: Can Simplex Clips be used to hoist heavy objects?
Answer: Absolutely not.
Simplex Clips are only loaded by a single bolt, and have limited load-bearing capacity (rated working load is usually ≤1 ton), and their impact resistance and continuous load-bearing performance are much lower than those of American forged rope clamps. When hoisting heavy objects (especially dynamic loads, such as cranes and tower cranes), bolts may be stretched and deformed, and wire ropes may slip, causing falling accidents, which is an illegal operation.
Q4: How to choose the appropriate Simplex Clips specifications?
Answer: The wire rope diameter must be strictly matched, and it cannot be used beyond the specification.
The diameter of the clamp groove of the rope clamp must be consistent with the diameter of the wire rope (for example, a 6mm wire rope must be used with a 6mm rope clamp). If it is too large, it will not be clamped firmly, and if it is too small, it will squeeze and damage the wire.
Common specification range: suitable for 2mm-8mm wire ropes, single-bolt rope clamps are prohibited for wire ropes exceeding 8mm (no corresponding high-strength models).
Q5: How tight should the bolts be tightened during installation? Are there any torque requirements?
Answer: The standard is "slight deformation of the wire rope but no single wire breakage". There is no fixed torque but overtightening should be avoided.
Manually tighten until the wrench cannot be easily turned (about 20-50N・m, depending on the specifications). Overtightening will cause the pressure plate to crush the wire, which will reduce the overall strength.
It is recommended to check after installation: shake the wire rope by hand, no obvious looseness; observe the wire at the rope clamp, no single wire warping or breakage.
Q5: Can the stainless steel Simplex Clips be used at the seaside?
Answer: 316 stainless steel can be used, 304 stainless steel needs to be used with caution, and carbon steel is prohibited.
The seaside environment contains high salt and humidity. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, and its resistance to chloride ion corrosion is 2-3 times that of 304. It can be used for 1-3 years (regular maintenance); 304 stainless steel may rust locally within 1 year in a high salt fog environment; carbon steel galvanized models will rust and fail within 3 months.
Q4: Can Simplex Clips be reused? Is there a limit on the number of times?
Answer: It can be reused 3-5 times in non-load-bearing scenarios, and it is recommended to use it once in load-bearing scenarios.
Before reuse, check whether the bolt thread is worn (if it cannot be twisted smoothly, it will be scrapped), whether the pressure plate is deformed (abnormal arc of the clip groove will cause uneven force), and whether there are cracks on the surface (especially carbon steel models).
If it is used for non-continuous load-bearing scenarios such as bundling and pulling ropes (such as gardening fixation), it can be reused after confirming that there is no damage; if it has been subjected to a tensile force close to the rated load, it is recommended to replace it directly.
