US Type Wire Rope Clips are a commonly used wire rope fastening connector, usually composed of a U-bolt, a saddle and a nut. There are various specifications, ranging from 1/16" to 3 - 1/2", which can be adapted to wire ropes of different diameters. The materials include high-strength carbon steel, stainless steel, etc. Carbon steel wire rope clips are often hot-dip galvanized or electro-galvanized, while stainless steel has better corrosion resistance and is suitable for harsh environments. There are also malleable cast iron ones, which are generally made by casting and have relatively low cost. American forged wire rope clips have high strength, good tensile properties, can withstand large tension, and are suitable for important occasions such as high-altitude lifting. Its saddle has a large contact area with the wire rope, which can evenly disperse the pressure and reduce damage to the wire rope, while providing reliable clamping force. And the surface treatment process enables it to adapt to a variety of working environments and has a long service life.

Scientific structural design: It consists of U-bolts, saddles and nuts. The saddle has a large contact area with the wire rope, which can evenly disperse the clamping force and reduce local extrusion damage to the wire rope. At the same time, the curvature of the U-bolt is highly compatible with the wire rope, which improves the fastening stability.
High strength and durability: The mainstream products are forged with high-strength carbon steel (such as G450), processed by die forging technology, with high tensile strength, can withstand large working loads, and are suitable for high-strength scenes such as lifting and hoisting; some models are made of stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and can adapt to harsh environments such as humidity, acid and alkali.
Wide adaptability: The specifications range from 1/16" to 3-1/2", which can match wire ropes of different diameters, and through different surface treatments (hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing, etc.), it can meet the needs of various scenes such as indoor and outdoor, industrial or civil use.
Clear safety specifications: It complies with the US FF-C-450 and other standards. During installation, there are strict regulations on the saddle orientation, bolt torque, and number of bolts to be used to ensure connection strength and reduce the risk of loosening. It is especially suitable for areas with high safety requirements such as lifting and construction.
US Type Wire Rope Clips are widely used in many fields due to their high strength, standardized design and reliable fastening performance. The specific scenarios are as follows:
Lifting and hoisting industry: In cranes, tower cranes, cranes and other equipment, they are used to fix the ends or connection points of wire ropes to ensure the safety and stability of heavy objects during lifting and translation, such as the fastening of wire ropes when lifting heavy goods such as steel and containers.
Construction and infrastructure engineering: Commonly used for scaffolding safety rope fixation, tower crane counterweight rope connection, temporary traction rope fastening during steel structure installation, and temporary fixation or node connection of steel cables in bridge construction.
Ship and marine engineering: Suitable for mooring ropes and towing ropes on ship decks, safety protection rope connections on offshore platforms, and wire rope end treatment of port hoisting equipment, which can withstand seawater corrosion environment (stainless steel is more suitable).
Transportation: In the cargo bundling of freight vehicles (such as trucks and trailers), it is used to fasten the wire rope to fix the cargo and prevent the cargo from shifting during transportation; it is also used for the wire rope connection of temporary traction equipment in railway and highway construction.
Power and energy industry: In power construction, it is used to fix the traction rope of electric poles and transmission towers, fasten the wire rope of wind power generation equipment (such as auxiliary rope for hoisting wind turbine blades), and connect the wire rope of lifting and traction devices in oilfield equipment.
Agriculture and forestry: It plays a role in the traction rope fixation of agricultural machinery (such as tractors and harvesters), the fastening of the binding rope for timber transportation in forestry, and the connection of the load-bearing rope when building greenhouses.
Emergency and rescue scenarios: In fire rescue and high-altitude rescue, it is used to fix the temporary rescue rope to ensure the safe suspension and movement of rescue personnel and equipment.
Q1: How to determine the number and spacing of rope clamps to be installed?
The selection should be based on the diameter of the wire rope: 2 rope clamps for diameter ≤ 1/4" (6mm), 3 for diameter 1/4"-3/8" (6-10mm), 4 for diameter 3/8"-3/4" (10-19mm), and 1 more rope clamp for each additional 1/4" of larger diameter. The spacing should be 6-8 times the diameter of the wire rope (e.g. 72-96mm for 12mm rope) to ensure that the force is evenly distributed. The last rope clamp should reserve a safety rope tail of about 150mm to facilitate observation of looseness.
Q3: What will happen if the saddle and U-bolt are facing the wrong direction during installation?
The saddle must be facing the main rope (the force-bearing end), and the U-bolt must buckle the rope tail. If installed in reverse (saddle facing the end of the rope), the contact area between the wire rope and the saddle will be reduced by more than 50%, the clamping force will drop by 30%-50%, it will easily slip when subjected to force, and even cause the rope clamp to deform and the wire rope to break, which may cause safety accidents especially in lifting scenarios, so it needs to be installed strictly according to the specifications.
Q3: Which parts need to be checked before reuse?
Check whether the U-shaped bolt is bent or deformed (if the straightness error exceeds 0.5mm, it needs to be replaced);
Whether the thread is intact (no slipping, rust and stagnation, which can be judged by testing the nut);
Whether the saddle is cracked or worn (if the inner arc is worn and the fit with the wire rope is not tight, it needs to be replaced);
Stainless steel materials need to check whether there are rust spots on the surface (if a large area of 316 material is rusted, it means that the environmental corrosion exceeds the tolerance range and needs to be replaced with a new one).
