US Type Bow Shackle is a bow-shaped shackle manufactured in accordance with relevant US industry standards and is widely used in industrial fields around the world that follow American standards. The main bow ring adopts an integrated forging process, with a pin shaft and a reliable anti-slip device. Common materials are carbon steel (surface treated by hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing, etc.), 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel. The carbon steel model is suitable for general industrial environments; the 304 stainless steel model can cope with moderate humidity and mild corrosion scenes; the 316 stainless steel model is specially designed for highly corrosive marine and chemical environments. The rated working load ranges from 0.33 tons to 200 tons, and the safety factor is usually ≥4.0. The unique bow structure enables it to withstand loads within a certain angle range, and is often used to connect wire ropes, chains and various types of slings.

Strict American standards, high load limit: following the ASME B30.26 standard, it must pass a static load test of 2 times the rated load and a dynamic load test of 1.33 times the rated load, and the breaking load is more than 6 times the working load (100-ton shackle breaking load ≥ 600 tons), and is safer than European shackles under extreme working conditions (such as sudden overload).
Integral forging, strong impact resistance: The D-ring and pin shaft are all made of integral forging technology (no welding), and are tempered and heat treated (hardness HB220-260), with impact toughness ≥ 40J (at low temperature of -40℃), which is 40% higher than the impact resistance of the casting type, and is suitable for dynamic load scenarios (such as oil field drilling platform hoisting).
Reliable anti-loosening and efficient operation: The anti-loosening method of the pin shaft is mainly "nut + cotter pin", and some heavy-duty models use "bolt + self-locking nut". The probability of anti-loosening failure in high-frequency vibration environments (such as mining machinery) is ≤0.05%; the ends of the pin shafts are mostly round or hexagonal heads, suitable for fast loading and unloading with standard wrenches, and one person can complete the installation within 1 minute.
The material is corrosion-resistant and suitable for extreme environments: the carbon steel model is hot-dip galvanized (zinc layer thickness ≥100μm) or phosphating, and the salt spray resistance test is ≥1200 hours; the 316 stainless steel model PREN (pitting resistance equivalent) is ≥48, and the corrosion rate is ≤0.008mm/year in strong corrosion environments such as offshore oil platforms, and the life is 15%-20% longer than the European 316 model.
Wide structure, outstanding compatibility: The width of the D-shaped ring is 10%-15% wider than that of the European shackle (e.g. 50-ton American shackle is 120mm wide, while European shackle is about 105mm), and the thickness of the ring body is increased by 20%, which is compatible with large-diameter wire ropes (≥32mm) and American chains (e.g. G80 grade), and no adapter is required in heavy-duty connections.
Energy and heavy industry: Drill pipe hoisting of oil drilling platforms, suitable for 100-200 ton American D-type shackles, 4130 alloy carbon steel material to withstand high pressure environment underground; large equipment (such as scraper conveyors) in coal mines, coarse thread design of pin shafts for quick connection, improving underground operation efficiency.
Ships and ocean transportation: Container ship hoisting in North American ports, 50-ton shackles connect crane slings and container corner fittings, and the wide D-shaped ring structure is suitable for containers of different specifications; anchor chain fixing of ocean-going cargo ships, 316 stainless steel type resists seawater corrosion and ensures long-term navigation safety.
Infrastructure and lifting engineering: hoisting of prefabricated beams of highway bridges in the United States (such as 100-ton T-beams), the integral forged ring body withstands high-strength loads; large crane main arm connection, pin shaft anti-loosening design resists the impact force generated by the swing of the boom.
Special vehicles and logistics: Cargo securing of heavy trailers in North America, 20-30 ton shackles with chains to lock construction machinery, coarse threads are not easy to loosen under bumpy road conditions; rocket parts transportation in the aerospace field, high-precision American shackles (tolerance ≤ 0.05mm) to ensure stable lifting.
Q1: What is the difference between American bow shackle and European bow shackle?
A: The safety factor of American bow shackle is usually 4-6 times the working load, while that of European is usually ≥6 times. In terms of size, American bow shackle is relatively more compact under the same load level. For example, the overall volume of a 10-ton American bow shackle may be 10%-15% smaller than that of a European bow shackle. In terms of surface treatment, American bow shackle focuses on versatility, while European bow shackle focuses more on long-term durability. In terms of price, American bow shackle may be 15%-25% lower than European bow shackle of the same specification due to its relatively low performance standards.
Q3: Can American bow shackle be used at an angle exceeding 35°?
A: It is not recommended. When the angle exceeds 35°, the actual load-bearing capacity of the shackle drops significantly (only 60% of the rated value at 60°), which may easily lead to ring deformation or pin breakage. If a large angle connection is required, a special large-angle rotating shackle should be used, or an adapter ring should be added to adjust the force direction, and the safety factor of the connection system should be guaranteed to be ≥3.5.
Q3: What should I do if the pin nut is rusted and difficult to remove?
A: First, soak the rusted part with kerosene or a special rust remover for 2-3 hours to soften the rust layer. Then use an adapter wrench and a hammer to tap the nut (pay attention to the strength to avoid damaging the ring body), and use vibration to assist in loosening the thread. If it still cannot be removed, low-temperature heating (such as a hot air gun) can be used to heat the nut to expand it, and try to twist it with a wrench. If the above methods are ineffective, the nut can be removed by cutting, but measures must be taken to protect the ring body during the cutting process. Finally, replace the pin and nut with a new one of the same specification and material.
