European Type Wire Rope Thimble is a wire rope protection accessory produced according to European standards (such as EN 13411). It has a U-shaped or C-shaped structure and is specially designed to wrap the eye of the wire rope to prevent the rope from being damaged due to friction or stress concentration during connection and lifting. The materials are mainly carbon steel (galvanized), 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel: the galvanized carbon steel is suitable for general industrial environments and has a low cost; 304 stainless steel is resistant to ordinary moisture corrosion; 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, has outstanding resistance to salt spray, acid and alkali, and is suitable for marine and chemical scenes. It is suitable for wire ropes of different diameters and is widely used in lifting, mooring, construction and other fields that have strict requirements for rope protection.

Corrosion-resistant material with wide adaptability: Carbon steel is hot-dip galvanized, and has reliable anti-rust performance in dry and slightly humid environments, with high cost performance; 304 stainless steel is resistant to atmospheric corrosion and is suitable for outdoor buildings and ordinary industrial scenes; 316 stainless steel is designed for highly corrosive environments (such as oceans and chemicals), and its salt spray resistance is more than 3 times that of 304, ensuring that it will not rust or deform after long-term use.
Strict standards and high precision: Strictly follow European EN standards, the dimensional error is controlled within ±0.1mm, the inner diameter of the ring is precisely matched with the diameter of the wire rope, and it fits tightly after installation without loose gaps. It can evenly disperse the rope tension and avoid local excessive stress leading to breakage. The protection effect is better than non-standard rings.
Structural reinforcement and deformation resistance: The U-shaped body is formed by forging or stamping process, and the wall thickness is 10%-20% thicker than that of ordinary rings. It has strong resistance to bending and extrusion, and is not easy to deform in heavy lifting (such as hundreds of tons of load), ensuring continuous protection of the wire rope.
Industrial lifting and hoisting: When hoisting heavy equipment (such as machine tools and molds) in factory workshops, the thimble is embedded in the eye of the wire rope to connect the hook and the equipment, avoiding direct friction between the rope and the metal hook, preventing the outer wire of the wire rope from breaking, and ensuring the safety of hoisting.
Building and bridge construction: used to connect the tower crane wire rope and the hoisting device to protect the rope from wear when repeatedly lifting steel bars and prefabricated panels; at the fixed point of the cable of the cable-stayed bridge, the thimble disperses the tension to prevent the local wear of the cable due to long-term stress.
Ocean and maritime operations: When the ship is moored, the thimble wraps the eye of the cable to connect the hull and the dock pile. The 316 stainless steel model resists seawater corrosion and prevents the cable from being worn off by the metal edge of the hull; offshore wind power platforms fix cables and hoisting equipment to adapt to high salt spray environments.
Logistics and mining transportation: At the connection between the wire rope and the bucket of the mine hoist, the ring protects the rope from friction with the ore; when the truck transports and fixes heavy goods, the ring strengthens the eye of the wire rope to prevent the rope from tearing during the bundling process.
Q1: How to match the ferrule with the wire rope specifications?
A: The ferrule should be selected according to the wire rope diameter: the inner diameter of the ferrule should be 0.5-1mm larger than the wire rope diameter to ensure that the rope can be inserted smoothly and fit tightly. If the gap is too large, it will easily cause the rope to shake and wear, and if it is too small, it cannot be installed. For example, a 12mm wire rope needs to be matched with a ferrule with an inner diameter of 12.5-13mm.
Q3: How to choose 304 and 316 stainless steel ferrules?
A: If the use environment is inland areas, dry workshops or ordinary outdoor (no salt, chemicals), choose 304 stainless steel; if it is in contact with seawater, acid and alkali at the seaside, ports, chemical plants, etc., 316 stainless steel must be selected, otherwise rust may occur within 6 months.
Q3: Can the ferrule continue to be used after deformation?
A: No. Deformation will cause the inner wall and the wire rope to not fit tightly, increase local friction, and reduce the load-bearing capacity by more than 50%, which may cause the rope to break. Even if there is a slight deformation (such as the opening expands by more than 1mm), it must be replaced immediately and cannot be used at random.
